Using a research-based approach is a central aspect to the University teaching programmes offered through AAU’s Learning Lab. To maintain this commitment Learning Lab is connected to local, national and international research groups and networks, including:
The Higher Education Research Group at the Department of Learning and Philosophy examines University teaching at the macro level including inquiries into societal changes nationally and internationally and how this impacts on University pedagogy, political initiatives in higher education and how they shape the European and Danish University landscape and how these changes affect and impact on university teaching and learning at the meso and micro level.
THE PBL RESEARCH UNIT AT THE DEPARTMENT OF LEARNING OF LEARNING AND PHILOSOPHY
This research unit is focused on PBL and the interaction between theory and practice and conducts most of its research in close collaboration with practitioners and institutions, across different disciplines.
The Video research Lab is working with digital video production and analysis to facilitate knowledge creation and sharing of best practices across research communities who work with video data collection, production and analysis – local and nationally.
DEPARTMENT OF LEARNING AND PHILOSOPHY
Department of Learning and Philosophy runs reaearch at highest scientific level within the fields of education, learning and philosophy. The department is closelhy linked with the Faculty of Humanities and Faculty of Social Sciences.
The PBL Academy at Aalborg University (AAU) works across departments and faculties with the aim of supporting the continuous development of the Aalborg Model of Problem Based Learning (PBL). The members of PBL Academy are members of the AAU Learning Lab advisory board.
UCPBL-THE UNESCO CENTRE FOR PROBLEM BASED LEARNING
The overall objective of this UNESCO Chair is to create a global society for researchers and academic staff working with PBL. This includes research and development activities, educational programs, consultancy activities, and the establishment of a global network for international cooperation and exchange of experiences.

AAU LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION SERVICES (LACS)
LACS assists AAU staff in the development of their proficiency with English and Danish communication and provides certification courses in English instruction. LACS also provides individual language coaching sessions in both English and Danish to address specific needs, requirements and levels, and provides translation and language revision services.
